A HISTORIC ‘MASSERIA’ GRACED BY THE SPLENDOUR OF SUNLIGHTOF PUGLIA AND THE BREEZE OF TWO SEAS
Masseria Altemura is located in the heart of Puglia, halfway between the Ionian and the Adriatic Seas. A unique terroir, thanks to the extraordinary light, the fresh perennial breezes of the two seas and land dominated by white limestone rocks and the red soil of Salento.
The estate extends within the Primitivo di Manduria DOC denomination, in the Province of Brindisi, and consists of an ancient 17th-century Masseria (farmhouse) and a contemporary-style winery in a singe location, surrounded by lush green vineyards and olive groves.
We preserve part of the local fauna and flora by maintaining 88 hectares of arable land and 40 hectares of olive groves.
At the Estate we are experimenting with the reintroduction of the sapling method for Primitivo, using the traditional practice of grafting the vine, with plants produced through mass selection in our vineyards.
Masseria Altemura boasts an extremely efficient rainwater collection system that feeds a tank which is used for emergency irrigation. Through this method it is possible to rationalize water based on the weather forecast.
Special pressure chambers allow us to promptly measure the hydration level of the vines, ensuring irrigation only when strictly necessary.
